update from the coop



If you compare the sizes of these eggs, and their yolks, you’ll notice one is tiny. That’s because it is one of the very first eggs from our pullets that we hatched in the incubator this summer. Three young buff-colored chicken ladies survived “the purge”.

Below is the little blue chick, all grown up, grandchicken of a Blue Andalusian rooster. We now have four roosters and 19 hens. Thanks to Eggzy, I was able to get an accurate accounting of the current flock.
Taking stock, I realized we were missing a hen. I found her remains (bottom photo). So,unfortunately, it is curtains for Rosy, a special Red Star hen. I wonder what got to her. Click here to see her with her peeps, the sole surviving chick of the pair turned out to be this barred blue rooster’s dad.
