renovations

The interior of our home is undergoing some renovations, as always. The walls were hollow—just wood siding, beams, and wallpapered horse hair plaster-- covered with layers of pressed cardboard strangeness and tacky paneling below the old windows.

Adam put 2” extruded polystyrene foam insulation in a huge freeform jigsaw puzzle matrix and next will be gradually covering that with MDF paneling. The panelling will get primed and painted and the room will look quite different. The old walls were lumpy, drafty, water-stained, and cracked. When this massive job is complete, we think they will look great. In grey. Apparently, grey is the new beige. The room needs something neutral that will reflect the warm light coming from the yellow stained glass and not clash with all the warm wood tones. It will really look classy, or as I have been saying, “sick” (in the best possible way).

Papa’s little helpers think the scaffolding is fun. They spent a solid hour loading washer onto screws. Somebody is grooming his future apprentice(s).
